I. The Wahl Brand of Dog Clippers
Wahl dog clippers are well known for their innovative design and high quality. The brand of Wahl began when The Wahl Clipper Corporation was founded by Leo J. Wahl, who had invented an electromagnetic hair clipper and later invented the first ever vacuum clipper, which could be used to cut hair without any hair falling in people’s clothes.
Today, Wahl sell hair clippers and shavers for men as well as well as a wide range of pet clippers and other pet care products. The company’s products are sold in more than 150 different countries and the Wahl Super Taper is one of the most popular hair clippers used by barbers all around the world.
The Wahl pet care range now includes dog nail clippers, shampoos, and other pet accessories. The one thing that all Wahl pet products have in common is their high quality.
Below, you will find our reviews of three of the top rated Wahl dog clippers that we think are amongst the best dog clippers around.
II. 3 Top Rated Wahl dog clippers
1. Wahl Professional Animal KM5 2 Speed Clipper Kit
The Wahl Professional Animal KM5 2 Speed Clipper is a corded, heavy duty, two speed dog clipper with a detachable blade. The clipper is engineered with a constant speed control, which is designed to keep the blades running at constant speed, even when cutting through thick, matted fur. The clipper comes with number 10 Ultimate Competition Series blade, which is detachable, so other sizes of blades can also be used.
We found the Wahl Professional Animal KM5 2 Speed Clipper comfortable to hold and the levels of vibration and noise were surprisingly low. As is the case with all Wahl dog clippers, this model is well made and it is built to last. The clippers were supplied with a long cord as well, which makes it easy to move around a dog when you are grooming it. The clipper stayed quite cool when we used it and the unit is lightweight too. Although looks aren’t really an important factor in dog clippers, the Wahl KM5 does look nice and it comes in a choice of three colours.
Overall then, we liked the Wahl Professional Animal KM5 Clipper. It was smooth, quiet and it provided a good clean cut, which is just what you need from a professional standard dog hair clipper.
Things We Liked
- Low noise and low vibration
- Comfortable to hold
- The blade didn’t get too hot
- Good build quality
- Long cord
- Provided a nice, clean cut
Things We Disliked
- The blade was a bit awkward to install
- The Instructions could be better
- The blade will heat up with extended use, but this was better in that respect than most dog clippers we have tested
2. Wahl ARCO SE Professional Cordless Pet Clipper Kit
The Wahl ARCO SE Professional Cordless Pet Clipper is a cordless, lightweight clipper with a fairly unique 5-in-1 blade system that will give you a #9, #10, #15, #30 and a #40 blade, all in one unit, and you can easily switch between blade sizes with just the flick of a lever. While this isn’t the most powerful dog clipper on the market, it’s neat, quiet and it would be ideal for smaller breeds of dogs and for cutting around the faces, paws, and sensitive areas of larger breeds of dogs.
The clipper is quiet and the vibration level is low. It is powered by rechargeable battery packs, of which you get two, and each battery pack will last for about 80 minutes before it needs a recharge. The recharge time is 75 minutes.
The blade is detachable, so it’s easy to clean, and the blades are designed to be cool running. We found that the Wahl ARCO SE Professional Cordless clipper ran smoothly and glided easily through even relatively thick fur.
This is a nice, compact and quiet little dog clipper that would be great for trimming the hair of a small dog, a cat, or for the making the fine, finishing touches on a larger breed of dog.
Things We Liked
- Very easy to use
- Lightweight and quiet
- Great for trimming around the face and paws
- Batteries hold a charge well
- The 5-in-1 blade system is great
- Doesn’t get too hot
Things We Disliked
- Tube shaped handle is a little bit awkward to hold
- The instructions need to be improved
3. Wahl Pet-Pro Dog / Cat Combo Kit
The Wahl Pet-Pro Dog / Cat Combo Kit is a complete pet grooming kit that includes both a full-size powerful dog clipper and a small clipper for trimming the hair around a dogs face and paws. The full size clipper is powered by a cord. The smaller clipperis cordless and it runs on batteries.
We think that putting both a Wahl full sized clipper and a smaller cordless version in the same pack is a great idea. It really does give you a complete dog grooming kit. The kit also contains a blade guard, cleaning brushes, clipper oil, a styling comb, guide combs and an instructional DVD.
Both clippers match up to the usual Wahl high standards. They are quiet, they run relatively cool and the vibration levels on both clippers were low. The large clippers are powerful and the blades are good quality. The small clippers are just the right size for a quick trim or for finishing off a full body cut. Wahl Pet-Pro Combo Kit would be the perfect choice for home grooming and, because you get all you need in one kit, it’s ideal for the first time dog groomer.
Things We Liked
- Great all-in-one dog grooming kit
- Easy to use
- Quiet and smooth
- Handles long, thick fur, and short fur and fine trimming
- Low vibration
- Blades don’t get too hot
Things We Disliked
- The small clippers need to be just a little bit more powerful
- They are not designed for continuous heavy duty use
- The guide combs are little bit difficult to fit
To sum up this post on Wahl clippers, we have always found clippers from this manufacturer to be of the best quality, easy to use, and good value for money. The heavy duty Wahl clippers are great for cutting through thick and matted fur, while the lightweight, cordless Wahl dog clippers are neat, compact and precise.
