Advantages and Disadvantages of the PetSafe Wireless Fence (PIF-300)

The PetSafe PIF 300 wireless dog fence is a reliable cordless invisible dog fence system that is one of the most popular of its kind on the market. The fact that it is made by PetSafe will be good enough for most people, but there are some disadvantages to this model. Here are main advantages of the PIF-300 and some of the things that people don’t like about it.

Advantages

  • The PetSafePIF-300 takes no time at all to set up and there is no cord, so there is no digging. That alone will make this one of the best wireless dog fences for many people. It also means that this model is portable, so you can take it with you on vacation, or relocate it when you move home. The dog collar is relatively lightweight for this type of collar.

Disadvantages

  • The main disadvantage of the PetSafe Wireless Fence (PIF-300) is that the boundary that it creates is circular. That can pose a problem if your yard is an irregular shape. You will also have to remember that the circle emanates from wherever you situate the transmitter and that has to be indoors. Cordless, wireless dog fences can also suffer from boundary fluctuations, although that appears to not be a major issue with this particular model. Another very minor issue that we have this model is that it doesn’t use standard rechargeable batteries, but then that’s an issue that we have with many invisible dog fences.

Conclusion

The PetSafe PIF-300 Wireless Fence is excellent value and the portability of the product will make it very popular with anyone who likes to take their dog away with them on camping vacations. The lack of a cord will also make it popular with those people who don’t want to spend any time digging trenches in their garden! If you are looking for a relatively cheap solution to the problem of a dog straying from home and you don’t want the expense of building a physical fence, then the PetSafe PIF-300 would be a good choice of wireless dog fence system for you.

The PetSafe Stay + Play Wireless Fence is an easy to set up wireless dog fence that will cover a circular area of up to 105 feet in all directions, or ¾ of an acre in total. The waterproof electric dog collar that comes with this model has five levels of static shock correction and it also has a beep only mode for training.

The collar is a vast improvement over the one that was supplied with the PetSafe Wireless PIF-300. The Stay + Play collar is one of the lightest and smallest that we have seen and it can be used on small dogs as well as the large ones. The collar also now has rechargeable batteries, so that’s a big plus point too.

The transmitter, which needs to set up in an indoor location, is also a lot smaller that its predecessor and it’s a lot more accurate too. The boundary fluctuation, which happens in even the best wireless dog fences, has been very much reduced with the PetSafe Stay + Play.

The new, slim dog collar is designed for dogs that weigh 5 pounds or more and it will fit neck sizes form 6 inches to 28 inches. It’s waterproof and the transmitter may be used with any number of dogs.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the PetSafe Stay + Play Wireless Fence

There are pros and cons with every wireless dog fence and most of the cons are because of the use of a radio signal rather than a buried wire, but, of course, the lack of a buried wire is also a major pro, because that brings with it many other advantages.

Advantages

  • The PetSafe Stay + Play is very easy to set up and there are no buried wires, so you don’t need to dig any trenches. The boundary area is adjustable, so setup is simply a case of finding the right boundary size for your yard. Because it doesn’t use buried wires, the Stay + Play is portable, so you can take it with you and use it on vacation.
  • The collar that is included with the PetSafe Stay + Play is lightweight and very small compared to other wireless fence collars we have seen and the rechargeable batteries are an immense improvement on the old PIF-300. We also liked the fact that it can be used for small dogs.

Disadvantages

  • The main disadvantages of the PetSafe Stay + Play Wireless Fence are the same as they are for any model of dog fences that use a radio signal to define the boundary. Unlike a buried wire type of electric dog fence, with models like the PetSafe Stay + Play the boundary can only be circular, which can pose a problem with some irregular shaped gardens and yards. The use a radio signal can also cause problems if your property is not very flat or has a steep incline. The other disadvantage of this type of electric dog fence is that you can get boundary variations. While that has been reduced to just a few feet with the PetSafe Stay + Play Wireless Fence, it can still make training a dog a bit more of a challenge.

Conclusion

The PetSafe Stay + Play Wireless Fence is a major improvement over the old PetSafe Wireless PIF-300. The boundary is much more stable, the collars are lightweight and small, and the rechargeable batteries make it much cheaper to use as well. The boundary being limited to a circle may be an issue for some people and, if you have a property that is on a steep incline or is an irregular shape, a buried wire dog fence might be a better choice. Other than that, we give the ThePetSafe Stay + Play Wireless Fence the big thumbs up and class it as one of the best wireless dog fences that is available today.

The PetSafe wireless containment system creates a circular wireless boundary that maintains the pets in an enclosed pet area. The system allows for easy adjustment from about 5 to 90 feet across all directions starting from the transmitter indoors. The system is easy to use as it only requires you to plug in the transmitter at home and to place the receiver around the dog's neck. This makes it quite versatile and thus outweighing other traditional methods employed in dog containment such as outdoor fencing or even buried wire fencing.

Advantages and Disadvantages of PetSafe Wireless Pet Containment System

  • The product offers the pet a circular area which you can increase with multiple transmitters.

The main reason for this is always to serve as a reminder to the pet to remain in the established boundary through the use of Static correction. Training of your pet should be done on a regular basis. Another factor that you have to take note of is that each pet has different tolerance level to the Static Correction. Therefore, not all pets can be retained in the boundary despite the training. This means that, if you have a reason to believe that your pet could pose a great danger to the people in their surrounding or even harm himself, you should consider employing other containment techniques along with the PetSafe wireless pet containment system to effectively confine your pet.

Review of Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence

The Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence is an in-ground cord based wireless dog fence that will keep your dog safe and sound within the boundaries that you set. Unlike cordless models, setting up this Friendly Pet wireless dog fence does involve digging a shallow trench to bury the cord and it will involve a bit of planning. However, what you get for that extra effort is wireless dog fence with huge flexibility. You can, for example, define a boundary around an irregularly shaped yard, you can set up areas through which your dog is allowed to pass, and you can even invisibly fence off things like flower beds or swimming pools.

The standard Friendly Pet Products wireless dog fence will cover an area of one-third of an acre, but that can be extended to five acres with the purchase of additional cord. The collar is waterproof and it has five levels of correction.

Overall, we found the Friendly Pet Products wireless dog fence very easy to step up and the quick start guide is well laid out and easy to follow. The fact that you need to bury a cord with this model that you gain in the setting of the boundary.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence

The Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence is an in-ground system, so some people will immediately see the need for burying a cord as a disadvantage. However, it is that very cord that brings many of the advantages too, so read on, and we’ll explain why.

Advantages

  • The big advantage that the Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence has over its cordless rivals is the flexibility. Being able to define an irregular boundary, rather than just a simple circle, will be a big bonus for many people. The use of a cord also means that you can fence off areas within the main boundary, like flower beds and pools. We also like the fact that the boundary is fixed by the cord and stays stable, unlike a cordless model, where the boundary can fluctuate from time to time.

Disadvantages

  • It is obviously more time consuming to set up a buried cord dog fence like the Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence and that will put some people off. This model doesn’t use rechargeable batteries, which is a bit of mark against it in our opinion. The other drawback with any buried cord, invisible dog fence is that it isn’t portable unless, of course, you really want to try digging up the cord and reinstalling it!

Conclusion

In summary, then, the Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence is one of the best buried cord wireless dog fence systems on the market. It’s reliable, flexible and, above all else, it works. If you own a property that has an irregular boundary, is on a steep on-line, or you have a larger area in which you want to allow your pet to roam, the Friendly Pet Products Wireless Dog Fence could well be the best wireless dog fence for you.
